5 Dreamy Nature Locations for Wedding Photoshoots Around Vienna
Perfect for cinematic, and mood-rich photography
Table of Contents
Not every couple dreams of a luxury palace or city hall shoot in the busy city centre of Vienna. Some people just want to be somewhere quiet — surrounded by trees, tall grass, light wind, a beautiful, minimalist, and dreamy location for a wedding photoshoot just outside of Vienna. As weddings are often celebrated in the nature, countryside is always a safe bet for a stunning location with little detail and a slightly mysterious or even fantasy mood.
If you’d also like to find out about our favourite spots in the city for couple photoshoots you can check out a dedicated post: 6 Best Proposal Locations in Vienna: Romantic Spots for Your Big Moment
We’ve spent the last couple of years photographing in and around Vienna, and we keep coming back to these natural spots. They’re not just pretty — they work well for elopement style storytelling, for stillness, for light that changes throughout the day. Trees create light and shadow dynamics that work perfect for any photoshoot and beautiful hills and viewpoints offer something special that the city doesn’t have. Aside from that with the current climate in Vienna, it’s always a nice decision to escape from here into a nature location on a hot summer day, when asphalt and concrete in the centre heat up the air to the point when it gets hard to concentrate on getting these dreamy photos.
These locations are perfect if you’re looking for something more minimalist and natural. They also work extremely well for more dramatic and moody cinematic wedding photography. Whether you’re planning a wedding shoot, an engagement session or even just want a small memory of your time together in Vienna, here are five places we genuinely think are one of the best locations for a wedding photoshoot around Vienna.
Why Choose Nature for Your Wedding Photos?
- More privacy & intimacy
- Beautiful light coming through trees
- Quiet, minimalist surroundings with a lot of flow and movement
- Restricted colour palette and no visual clutter
Nature Locations For Wedding Photoshoots
Jubiläumswarte & Wienerwald

We start off with locations that are the closest to the city and are easiest to get to. This area is great for engagement photography locations or even an intimate elopement shoot in Austria. Wienerwald is the forest on the west from Vienna where you can easily get to with public transport. The part of the forest that would be very nice for a wedding photoshoot has many paths through the forest as well as a tower with the view over the hills. The tower offers a nice point with possibilities for some dynamic shots like the one above, minimalist photos of you on the tower itself and wider shots with the views over the hills.
Overall area offers a plenty of possibilities to do great photoshoots during spring summer or autumn, but of course as all nature locations it looks the stunning during all seasons except winter when the trees are naked.
Nussdorfer Weinberge/Kahlenberg

The Nussdorf vineyards are one of the most charming Vienna wedding photo spots, especially for wide and open views and epic photographs at sunset. Rolling hills, rows of vines, spectacular views — it’s one of the nature locations for wedding photoshoots where you can really play with depth and wide framing. It’s also easy to get to that area which takes just an U-Bahn and a tram ride. As you leave the tram on Nußdorf, Beethovengang stop, the last stop of tram D, it takes about 20 minutes to reach the hilltop. Beautiful locations and views open even earlier that allows to start taking photos even before arriving to the most scenic locations.
In autumn, the colours are warm and deep — burnt oranges, faded greens, golden grass. In spring and summer, it’s softer and more delicate. We often photograph here near sunset, when the light is low and golden, slipping across the hills. When it’s sunny you have great light dynamics and when it’s cloudy you have a beautifully dramatic atmosphere.

It’s also a good spot for casual, slightly playful shoots like picnics, walking barefoot in the grass, or even simply laying in the middle of a field and observing the view. Aside from that you have the views over Danube and the city and Heuriger wine bars for more prompted photos. Check out this Vienna elopement gallery for more photos from the location.
Schwarzer Turm, Lainzer Tiergarten

Located next to Mödling just outside of Vienna the Schwarzer Turm is more than just a viewpoint, the area on the top of the hill is rocky, and with a beautiful pine tree forest which make it one of the best nature locations for wedding photoshoots. Aside from that, from the top of the hill, you have views on the hills with rocks nearby, a viaduct and a couple of ruins of castles in the area.
As you go around the hill and on the other side of it you will find yourself in front of Castle Liechtenstein which is a beautiful location for a slightly more fantasy themed photoshoots. Imagine yourself in Vintage or light plain classic outfits in front of a medieval castle at sunset.
What we like most here is the light — filtered through tall trees, soft and even, especially in later afternoon, during the golden hour at sunset. It creates this calm, painterly mood that works well for both intimate portraits and wide scenic shots.
It’s a good spot if you’re drawn to something moody and romantic, with a subtle sense of scale. It’s also a less popular location than Kahlenberg which makes it less crowded and easier for a relaxed photoshoot without too many distractions.
Josefsteg (Schilfbrücke), Lobau

This one’s less known but visually strong. The Schilfbrücke is a long, narrow pedestrian bridge surrounded by tall grass. It’s minimal in the best way — just enough structure to frame a photo, but mostly it’s about space and air. The reeds create a perfect background and also a way to make more intimate and reserved photos.
There’s a soft rhythm to this place. The reeds sway in the wind, and the light bounces gently off the water in the distance. It’s great for layered shots — a couple in the foreground, movement behind them, sky above. If you’re looking for nature locations for wedding photoshoots that feel quiet, poetic and a bit hidden, this one is ideal.
On foggy or overcast days, or at sunset, it becomes almost cinematic by accident. You don’t need to do much — just have a walk and enjoy your time there, and the landscape does the work. It’s a location we’d recommend for couples who love quietness and minimalist romantic atmosphere. There is the beautiful forest with paths completely covered by the trees from the top, water ponds, and this area with tall dry reeds and a wooden bridge across.
Donauinsel – Northern End

While Donauinsel is one of the most popular places in Vienna, its northern end would be a nice spot where you have both, a bit of industrial architecture but also a view on beautiful hills and Danube. The landscape here is quieter, more spacious, and less maintained — which gives it a wild, raw character that works really well for cinematic-style couple shoots.
For the industrial part of the landscape we have Einlaufbauwerk Langenzersdorf, a little dam that could serve as a nice and dramatic backdrop.
You’ll find long stretches of grass, river stones, quiet footpaths, and beautiful light reflecting off the water in during the golden hour. It’s the kind of place where you can forget you’re in the city and just focus on being in the moment. It also works well for slightly windier days when the textures of grass and water come alive.
On hot days it is also possible to come a few hundred meters away to the closed off part of Danube (Neue Donau) and take some photos in the water.
Bonus Tip: Wienerberg

This park in Favoriten might not look like much, but with the right artistic approach one can get stunning couple photos there. There are trees, hills, fields and even a lake – more than enough for a varied photoshoot. It’s one of the biggest parks that’s within the city limits and is easily reachable by public transport. If your ceremony is going to be at the registry office for the 10th and 11th districts, this is one of the top nearby choices for your couple photos. Have a look at this summer golden hour couple photoshoot gallery for inspiration.
Conclusion
Most couples don’t come with a clear idea of location, and that’s completely fine. Part of our job is helping you figure out what fits your energy and the mood you want to capture. If you’ve gotten to this post and read it fully until here, some of these nature locations for wedding photoshoots and the style probably resonate with you.
All of these places are different, but they have one thing in common: they work well when the goal is something more intimate, tasteful, emotional, and cinematic. If you’re not into overly posed, overly busy shoots and love nature no less than imperial architecture (so do we), we’d be happy to help plan something beautiful and honest, and with a storytelling photoshoot arranged as a full cinematic gallery. You can also see the bigger picture and explore all steps of planning a wedding in Vienna, from engagement sessions to venues and vendors.
